French conditionnel worksheet

Future stem plus imparfait endings. Simple to state, easy to confuse with the futur.

The conditionnel présent is built from the futur simple stem with imparfait endings, so the only thing standing between je serai and je serais is one letter and a lot of practice. Writing the forms out by hand is the fastest way to make that difference visible to students.

      How to use this worksheet

      • Teach it immediately after the futur simple and use the same verbs so the stem is already known.
      • Use plural pronouns for a sheet where the difference is audible (nous serons / nous serions), not just written.
      • Follow with si-clause practice: si + imparfait, conditionnel is where this tense actually earns its keep.
