Émile, founder of Bonjour Verbs, with Poppy the cat É

Hi, I'm Émile.

I was born in Quebec. French is my native language, and I've spent the last few years watching English-speaking friends, coworkers, and immigrants here hit the same wall over and over. Conjugation. Not vocabulary. Not pronunciation. Conjugation.

I learned Spanish myself, through every book, app, and tutor on the market (830 hours, here's how), so I know exactly how that wall feels from the other side. None of the tools out there are built for the depth French conjugation actually demands. So I built one.

Bonjour Verbs is a small labor of love (with a lot of help from Poppy, my chief of distractions, that's her in the photo, refusing to let me work). The mission is simple: make French more accessible to English speakers, one tense at a time.

Why Bonjour Verbs?

Conjugation is the hardest part of French. It's also the most teachable, if anyone bothered to do it properly.

🗺️

Built by a native speaker, level by level

41 guided levels grouped into milestones, ordered by what French speakers actually use most. No random drills. You always know what to study next, and why it matters.

🧭

Get the rule, not just the answer

On every wrong answer, we walk you through the derivation: parler → drop -er → parl- → +ons → parlons. You leave knowing the pattern, not just the form. This is the part Duolingo skips.

🔎

2,000+ verbs, searchable by any form

Heard parlais and can't place it? Type it in. We'll show you it's parler, imparfait, 1st person. Full conjugation tables across every tense, with English glosses and frequency badges.

Smart Quiz drills your weak spots

The app tracks which forms you keep missing and serves them back to you on a spaced-repetition schedule. Stop wasting reps on what you already know. Study only what you don't.

How it works

A daily 10-minute loop, designed to take you from conjugation-anxiety to conjugation-on-autopilot.

  1. 1

    Start at your level

Absolute beginner? Stuck on the subjunctive? Pick where you are. The roadmap unlocks one milestone at a time so you're never lost.

  2. 2

    Learn, then quiz

Each level pairs a bite-sized lesson with typed-answer practice. We don't just teach the rule, we make you produce the conjugation until it sticks.

  3. 3

    Track and unlock

Streaks, per-tense mastery badges, and milestone trophies. Smart Quiz (Pro) revisits your weak spots automatically using spaced repetition.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bonjour Verbs free?

Yes. Free covers présent indicatif, the top 100 verbs, the first 12 levels, and the Custom Quiz builder (1 saved quiz, free tenses). Pro unlocks the other 14 tenses, all 2,000+ verbs, the full 41-level roadmap, unlimited saved Custom Quizzes, and Smart Quiz.

Why is French conjugation so hard?

15 tenses, irregular stems, three verb groups, pronominal verbs, subjunctive triggers, past participle agreement. Most apps either skim it (Duolingo) or are reference-only (Le Conjugueur). We're built specifically to walk you through it.

Quebec or France French?

Both. Conjugation is identical across France, Quebec, Belgium, and Africa, so the same content works everywhere. We're not in the regional-vocabulary business; we're teaching conjugation.

What tenses are covered?

All four moods: indicatif (présent, imparfait, passé composé, plus-que-parfait, passé simple, futur simple, futur antérieur), subjonctif, conditionnel, and impératif.

Does it work offline?

Fully. The entire verb library, every lesson, every quiz, and your progress all work with no internet. Sign-in is optional, only used to back up progress across devices.

Allez ! Let's get those verbs sorted.

Available now on iOS and Android. Free to start, Pro to go all the way.
