Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data Bonjour Verbs (the "app", "we", "us") collects from you, why we collect it, and what choices you have. Bonjour Verbs is operated by Zap Software ("Zap Software"). If you have questions, email support@bonjourverbs.com.

The short version

• You can use Bonjour Verbs without creating an account. In that mode, all your data lives on your device.
• If you create an account (optional), we sync your progress to our backend so it survives device changes.
• We use analytics and crash reporting to understand how the app is used and to fix bugs, never to build advertising profiles.
• We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads inside the app. We do run our own ads on platforms like Meta (Facebook/Instagram) to reach new learners, and we share limited install and device data with Meta to measure which ad led to a download — see Measuring our advertising.
• Subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.

What we collect, and why

1. Information you give us

• Account information (only if you choose to sign in): email address, authentication token from Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In. We use this to identify your account across devices and to back up your progress.
• Onboarding answers (proficiency level, daily goal): used to personalize your learning path. Stored locally; synced to your account if you sign in.
• Support correspondence: if you email us at support@bonjourverbs.com, we'll keep that correspondence to respond and to improve the app.

2. Information generated as you use the app

• Learning progress: which levels you've completed, which verbs you've practiced, your streak count, per-tense mastery scores. Stored locally; synced to your account if you sign in.
• Quiz mistakes: which conjugations you got wrong, used to power Smart Quiz (spaced repetition). Stored locally; synced if you sign in.
• App usage events (e.g. "level completed", "quiz started", "paywall viewed"): used for product analytics. We use Amplitude for this. Events do not contain free-text content you've typed.
• Crash reports: stack traces, device model, OS version, app version. Used to diagnose and fix crashes. Does not include personal content.

3. Information collected automatically

• Device information: device model, operating system version, app version, language, country, screen size. Used to make sure the app works on your device and to prioritize fixes for the platforms our users actually use.
• Subscription status: managed by RevenueCat on our behalf. We receive information about your subscription state (active, expired, in trial) but never your payment instrument.

What we don't collect

• We don't collect your contacts, location, microphone, or camera.
• We don't build advertising profiles about you, and we never use your learning activity or free-text content for advertising. (We do use limited device data to measure our own install ads — see Measuring our advertising.)
• We don't show third-party advertising.
• We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Measuring our advertising

We sometimes run ads for Bonjour Verbs on platforms like Meta (Facebook and Instagram) to reach new learners. To understand which campaign or ad led to a download — so we don't spend on ads that don't work — the app shares a limited set of data with Meta:

• App install and open events, plus basic device information (device model, OS version, country).
• On Android, your device advertising ID (GAID), used to match an install back to the ad you tapped.
• On iOS, we do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and show no tracking prompt; attribution runs through Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork, which reports installs to us only in aggregate.

We don't share your name, email, learning content, or the answers you type, and we don't use this data to target ads to you inside Bonjour Verbs.

We also use Singular, a measurement provider, to attribute installs to the ad platforms we use (including Apple Search Ads, Meta, Google, and Reddit). Singular receives the same limited install and device data described above — on iOS via Apple's SKAdNetwork (no IDFA, no tracking prompt) and on Android via the Google Play install referrer. It does not receive your name, email, or learning content.

Service providers we use

We use a small number of third-party services to run Bonjour Verbs. Each is bound to handle your data only for the purposes we specify.

• Supabase, account authentication and progress sync (only used if you sign in).
• RevenueCat, subscription management.
• Amplitude, product analytics (anonymized usage events).
• Meta Platforms, measuring the performance of our own advertising campaigns (app-install attribution).
• Singular, measuring which ad campaign led to an install across the platforms we advertise on (app-install attribution).
• Apple and Google, payment processing for App Store and Google Play purchases.

Where your data is stored

Most data is stored on your device. Data synced to your account is stored on Supabase infrastructure (which uses AWS). Analytics events are stored on Amplitude infrastructure (AWS, US region). Subscription status is stored on RevenueCat infrastructure. Advertising-attribution data is processed by Meta and Singular on their infrastructure.

How long we keep your data

• Locally on your device: until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
• On our backend (account holders only): until you delete your account, after which it's removed within 30 days.
• Analytics events: retained for up to 24 months, then deleted.
• Crash reports: retained for up to 90 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California, similar laws elsewhere), you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct data that's inaccurate.
• Delete your account and associated data.
• Export your data in a portable format.
• Object to how we use your data for analytics.

Children

Bonjour Verbs is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, notify you in-app the next time you open it.
