French être and avoir worksheet

Être and avoir are irregular in every tense, and they are also the auxiliaries behind every compound tense — which means a student who hesitates on nous avons hesitates on the whole passé composé too. This sheet narrows the pool to just those two verbs so the practice is concentrated where it compounds.

Why practise être and avoir separately?

Because they are irregular everywhere and they carry every compound tense. Fluency in these two verbs unlocks the passé composé, the plus-que-parfait and the futur antérieur at once.

Which tenses appear on the sheet?

By default A2 mixed: présent, passé composé, imparfait and futur simple. Raise the level to B1 to add conditionnel and subjonctif.
